I decided that my plaster mould jacket should be in two halves to make the removal of the rubber easier. To do this I used thin aluminium shim to create a wall along the halfway line (side to side); which is running in the opposite direction to my initial alignment line (front to back) this is so that the mould line doesn't run along the writing detail at the front which could cause problems when I am de-moulding the waxes.
In the image below you can see that I have placed small sections of drinking straws into the clay, these will allow the air to pass through the plaster when I pour the rubber. Also visible is a small clay retainer wall, this will form the edge of my plaster jacket.
Below: plaster progression, starting with a splash coat, a second layer containing hessian scrim for strength, and finally a finishing layer.
